The Punjabi Emotional Speech Database (PEMO) is a curated dataset designed for emotion recognition in Punjabi speech, consisting of 22,000 natural utterances (approximately 12 hours and 35 minutes) extracted from Punjabi films and web series. It includes recordings from 60 speakers, aged 20 to 45 years, covering four primary emotions: anger, sadness, happiness, and neutrality. The speech data is processed using PRAAT, and its emotional content is annotated by three experts in Punjabi, with the final label determined by majority agreement. PEMO serves as a valuable resource for both human and machine-based emotion recognition, contributing to the development of speech-based AI applications in Punjabi.
